'Older People' have changed the world!.. and will continue.

The whole point about health is that it must be worth it. There must be a purpose behind good health.

With so short - in relative terms - a human life, we need to go for the best not the worst, the boring, the miserable, or the mean.

Good mental and physical health needs good food, good exercise and interesting thought.

Now take the delights of a decent cream tea.
Scone made with plump raisins, good flour and fat,
eggs from happy birds on free range
- and no extra sugar needed.

Blackcurrant jam rich with fruit. Clotted cream if possible. Pot of tea, with whole milk.
Good company. What meal could be nicer?

Feel free to comment on your thoughts in the section below.

Aah... yes. This selfie is supposed to be about Older People..saying what the point is.

The point about 'older people' of my generation is that we have always changed the world.

We need to accelerate that now, both as a matter of keeping mentally fit, and to make sure
that the world remains changed, for the better.

No good sitting on your laurels, if you managed to gain any.

Instead, get them out,
give them a bit of a dust (if you really must)
and then get on with it.

If you happen to be 'a bit short of laurels', there's time yet.

If you don't want to go into a slow, slippery decline, get out, 'older person' and make your mark.
Be certain to enjoy it this time.

With 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 years of knowledge
- and a little flip of anarchy -
great things can eb achieved. (spelling, for instance)

Go for it!

Empowerment’s Courageous Truth

When you announce ‘empowerment
Consider well the word you use
Stick to its own courageous truth
And do not bend it to your will

Corruptions forced upon the word
Will wear its very meaning down
To plunge it crippled to a pit
In chains and blindfolding of will

Empowerment comes from deep within
To meet the need where need there is
It works to fight its battles well
And to extend the health and will

Don’t plunge the beauty of its wit
In fear and anger from its height
But work to save it – give it weight

Empowered Persons

So we discuss the way to go
The way to give the power back
Yet giving power will no more be
Empowering the Community

Than other ‘telling what to do’
And scanning badges to control
Removing with one sleight of hand
Empowerment from Community

The power must be in the air
And spreading widely in free range
To take – to seize – to use at will
Empowering the Community

Which only can its power claim
For need and purpose it will have
Not sit – a beggar who can’t reach
Empowerment from Community

The way to go is ‘set it free’
Just watch it fly – don’t shoot it down
Put in the seed and help it grow
Empowering the Community

Free will is something you can’t give
It will not live its life in chains
Dispensed by those we pay to care
Empowerment is Community

It sweeps through barrel-rolls in air
It feels the sun upon its back
And spies the land from dizzy height
Empowering the Community

There is no slot nor regiment
Where power’s forelock will be tugged
Yet still polite humanity
Empowers within Community

In part - the right is there to fail
Or win – or to protect your own
Or – in extreme – the stranger tend
Empowering the Community

Raw freedom’s rights are ill-prepared
To be subsumed below the State
And always humans who stand firm
Empower their own Community

So take the seed and feed the bird
Rewarding well its shining health
By watching – as it flies away
Where you can’t catch nor hold its life
Yet you can tend its ills and woes
Accountable of your own will
Empowered by Community

Its Art - a poem about the need for Art in our lives

Its Art

Its Art has moved all people on
                                                                                                Above their lower life
Its Art will feed – from artists gone
And cut us like a knife
And though we raise our thoughts aloft
Art shows us who we be
Its bright – unclear – its sharp or soft
                                                                        It forces us to see
We may not understand it all
We wont – let all be clear
For Art amuses when we fall
Yet shows us what to fear
                        You concentrate on simple form
                        Or complicated view
And understand one facet - warm
Can mean so much to you
Yet always Art – elusive still
Escapes the final touch
For artists draw on complex will
On solid air and such
                        To fashion one collected hope
                        From many failures there
One view beyond the normal scope
One aspect wise - or rare
To show a new way into thought
                                                If you will follow on
Engage the mind in reason caught
                                                Before its reasons gone
And Art – its essence all around
                                                                        Picked out by careful skill
Can yet be understood and found
By all who have the will
And whether Art arrives by sight
                                                                                                Or in some vacuum rare
Beamed in from long dead stars at night
                                                                                                Discovered in a stare
Or in perspective or in none
As foundrel - will - or thought
To flicker here – snuff out – be gone
Art will be as it ought
Where it can once be recognised
Art has the right to be
Made welcome – not – or stigmatised
Art does not bend the knee
                        It flourishes – successful weed
                        Unstoppable - remains
For Art is strength – it will succeed
We die – yet Art maintains
                                                                                                Art?!? Nah!

(This is a failed attempt to explain)

Empowered? – Not yet! – But Impatient To Be So!

I’m nobody’s patient patient
The system is all awry
It thinks I was born for patience
For patience until I die
But I was born impatient
To throw things and to cry
To scope life with other Impatients
But mostly to get by

I’m grateful - when I’m a patient
If ill – I’m prepared thereby
With the facts – to wait in patience
Without them I’m high and dry
I’m angry and I’m impatient
And if I’ve been told a lie
Disempowered – like other Impatients
I will not sit by and sigh

I’ll tell you that as your patient
The one who needs to defy
I will work over time and patience
To learn what you do – to pry
To change for us – all impatient
The system of health – your tie
From ill to good health – for Impatients
Work with me or I’ll ask why

The system must suit the patient
Must find what works and espy
The way to improve - in patience
The way to re-cut the pie
To serve the people impatient
The slice they need – and to vie
To bring the best – to Impatients
That’s what we can do if we try

Professional – Carer – or Patient
Loud woman or very shy guy
Set limits upon your patience
Take only what works – Magpie
Insist on the best – be impatient
Get rid of the worst thereby
Bad service produces Impatients
With work we can kiss it “Goodbye!”

So that there is no mistake:
Impatient – I am impatient – I am an Impatient(sing.) - We are Impatients (plu.)
